Adult Religious Education, Tempe Monthly Meeting
SIMPLICITY
One of the Quaker
testimonies, simplicity, dates back to early days of the beginning of our
religion. It includes such areas as plain dress and language, but goes on to
encompass integrity in business, overcommiting ourselves emotionally and with
activities in our lives. It is a commitment to the plain life, a deliberate
lifestyle.
Simplicity is the absence
of all that is unnecessary, of superfluities. As a choice it leaves us
unencumbered to fellowship more closely with God. But, it is not a discipline.
If we seek the kingdom of God first, all other things will fall into place. Get
right with God and then right action will follow. When you are centered, your
outward manifestations will reflect what is happening on the inside. It is a
fruit of the Spirit.
To help you create a
Simplicity Plan, five areas have been selected. Under the categories spiritual,
family, behavioral, financial and possessions, there are suggestions of what
and how you can accomplish some simplicity in your lives. Choose what speaks to
your condition and/or add your own ideas. KEEP IT SIMPLE! Visit this plan
regularly and revise it as needed. May it be a help to thee. And, as always, we
hold thee in the LIGHT.
